The Romanze, Op.26 is Johan Svendsen's most famous work, originally composed for solo violin and orchestra, and subsequently arranged for violin and piano. After a 19-bar piano introduction, the violin enters with an arresting romantic melody, before a more urgent theme in G minor takes over. A reprise of the first melody leads the work to an extremely quiet conclusion, marked morendo (literally 'dying away').
