Sarasate wrote his Carmen Fantasy for violin and orchestra in 1881, before arranging it for violin and piano the following year. It contains five familiar elements from Georges Bizet's opera Carmen, including the Habanera and Seguidilla, ingeniously blending them into one of Sarasate's most famous and technically demanding works for violin.
