Like the other two works in this Op.137 set, Schubert originally wrote this work as a violin sonata in 1816, though it wasn't published until 1836 as a 'Sonatina'. It is darker in tone than its predecessor, dwelling in minor keys for much of its duration, but it is a fine work for student violinists to attempt to learn.
