Schubert composed three violin sonatas Op.137 in 1816, however when they were posthumously published in 1836 they were termed sonatinas. The first of the set is Schubert's only violin sonata with three movements. The first movement features a lot of unison passages between violin and piano, while the second is a simple but pretty Andante in A major. The tempo of the finale is quick, but along with the rest of the sonatina it never presents too many technical challenges for the violin, making this a good choice for violinists looking to learn their first piece in sonata form.
