Zapateado, composed in 1879, is one of the most famous and frequently programmed of Sarasate's eight Spanish Dances. A zapateado is a dance of Andalucian origin with a pronounced stress on the second beat of the bar, something which Sarasate incorporates into his work along with harmonics, double stops and left hand pizzicatos.
