While the jota dance originated in the Spanish region of Aragon, Sarasate's interpretation places it in the neighbouring Spanish community of Naverre. It is a lively dance which, along with the Romanza Andaluza forms Sarasate's Opus 22 set of Spanish Dances, dedicated to the violinist Wilma Neruda.
