Camille Saint-Saëns wrote his Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in 1863, and dedicated it to the great violinist Pablo de Sarasate. It was later arranged and published for violin and piano by George Bizet. While the short Introduction is contemplative, the Rondo is a highly virtuosic and, as the title suggests, capricious showpiece for violin.
