Schubert wrote his Rondo Brillante D.895 in 1826. It was the first work he had written for violin and piano in nearly a decade, and it exhibits grander and more challenging musical ideas than his earlier works. The introductory Andante takes around four minutes to perform and leaves the music in suspense, which is resolved by a 12 minute-long Allegro section in rondo form. This movement has relentless energy and makes considerable demands on both violin and accompanying piano parts.
