Mozart composed this violin sonata in Vienna in 1781, part of his Opus 2 set of sonatas which was dedicated to his pupil Josepha Auernhammer. The fact that she was a pianist is reflected in the fact that this set all have prominant piano parts which combine ingeniously with the violin.
