After the previous two numbered examples (K454 and K481), K.526 completes Mozart's trio of acclaimed late violin sonatas. It was completed in 1787 and shows Mozart's instrumental writing at its most inventive, employing contrapuntal techniques and elements of syncopation. The Presto finale is among the most breathless movements Mozart wrote, with extended quaver passages in both piano and violin.
