Mozart originally composed his fourth violin concerto for himself to play, in 1775 while living in Salzburg. However, he later made the solo part considerably more difficult in order for his friend Antonio Brunetti to play. The march-like rhythms in the first movement have led to it sometimes being nicknamed the 'Military' concerto.
