Hummel's Flute Sonata Op.50 is a more substantial work than its predecessor, and the piano becomes more of an equal partner here. The first movement requires good articulation in the flute part while the Andante movement is quite sparse and unsettled in its character. The finale is marked pastorale but requires a considerable virtuosity from both instruments. The sonata can also be played on violin.
