Haydn wrote his Trumpet Concerto in 1796, and it has become one of the best loved of all trumpet concertos. The first movement contains a fanfare-like theme for the trumpet, while the second movement is in a lyrical siciliano style. The theme of the third movement is instantly recognisable and full of Haydn's trademark wit.
